Eskom Supports Energy Efficiency Workshop At Tourism Indaba

The workshop aims to empower the hospitality industry with tools, tips and solutions for optimising the energy efficiency and eco-friendliness of their establishments. Some of the topics covered include reducing energy consumption and costs through behavioural change and the deployment of energy efficient technologies; water conservation; alternative energy; waste management; 'green' procurement of goods and services; ‘green' design and construction; benchmarking practices and operations against industry standards; and obtaining Green Tourism Certificates.

Presented annually across South Africa, the workshops have provided an invaluable platform for Eskom Energy Advisors to introduce and explain the cost saving benefits of the company's range of energy efficiency rebate programmes, and engage directly with owners and managers of hospitality establishments on the issue of energy efficiency challenges in the industry.

Eskom has been collaborating with Hotelstuff.co.za, an online directory of products and services for the hotel industry, since 2012.

Many hotels, guest houses and bed and breakfast facilities have conducted energy audits with Eskom and initiating energy saving projects with great success as a result of the workshops. The owners of one of these establishments, Michael and Ingrid Newbold of the Manderson Hotel and Conference Centre in Stutterhein in the Eastern Cape, will present their energy efficiency success story at the workshop in Durban.
